How much does it cost?
Once residing at Providence Place, the monthly cost is $800 per month. The initial cost to enter the house is $1,300. This initial payment includes one month of rent, half a month security deposit, and a one time administration fee of $100.
Do you currently have any available beds?
The availability of beds is constantly in flux. With 24 resident beds, they open up frequently and unexpectedly. To begin the process, fill out our online application and we will contact you as soon as a bed becomes available, for a follow up interview.
What should I bring?
A list of what to bring can be found here.
Do you distribute prescribed medications?
All approved prescription medications are the responsibility of the resident. We do not allow locking safes, so keeping them out of sight and in an inconspicuous area are important. We are not a medical facility.
Do you have single occupancy rooms?
All our rooms are double occupancy rooms with twin beds.
What is your visitor policy?
Visitors are allowed but are restricted to the common areas on the first floor of either house. The resident is required to notify one of the managers when they are expecting a visitor. With the exception of immediate family, all visitors must be male. Family is always welcome and encouraged to visit their loved ones at the house at any time of day.
What is the address?
Our main location is at 19 Bramhall Street, Portland, ME 04102. Once admitted, residents can receive packages and mail at the address of the house in which they are living.
The address to our other location is 25 Bramhall Street, Portland, ME 04102.
Can I have my car?
Though there is no need for one, and we encourage residents to leave their cars at home, they are allowed. Parking can be tricky in Portland, and tickets are $25. We do offer off street parking pending availability, for an additional monthly charge. Cars allow for easy access to impromptu trips to old stomping grounds in a weak moment of sobriety, hence our position against residents bringing them. Portland has a great bus system and many AA meetings are within walking distance to the house.
What is the typical time residents stay there?
We require a minimum of a 3 month stay. We have found that to be the time period that is required to gain anything out of our program. There is no limit to how long guys can stay at the house. As long as they are gaining something from the house they are welcome to stay. Most residents live at the house around 6 months, at which time they move into a less structured sober living environment.
Is it difficult to find a job in Portland?
Portland is a tourist town, which thrives in the summer months. Finding a job during this time is quite easy. During the winter and spring months, jobs are still available. We encourage the guys to obtain “get well jobs.” This is the term we use to refer to jobs that are aimed at bringing accountability and responsibility into the lives of the guys without serving as a distraction due to stress or long hours. These are typically restaurant, construction and call center jobs. Early sobriety is not the time to focus on rebuilding careers. With 24 residents working at different businesses, networking in the house for jobs is generally effective.
How long do I need to be sober to be admitted?
Every new resident must pass a UA test for drugs and alcohol to be admitted. We prefer the resident to come directly from a 30 day rehab (door-to-door), but each situation is different and depends on many factors. Dishonesty surrounding last use will result in immediate discharge or disapproval for admittance.
What if I don’t have a cellphone?
There is a resident phone at either house. This phone is answered and utilized by residents only.

What is the difference in the two houses?
The houses are just two doors down from one another. Besides cost and physical location, they are the same. Residents from both houses are encouraged to spend time at the other house. All of our meetings, meditations and groups are held together; the program is exactly the same. The difference in cost arises from the cost of operation. 25 Bramhall has 10 residents, 19 Bramhall has 14. 25 Bramhall was renovated in 2013, 19 Bramhall was renovated in 2011. House assignment is on a first come first serve basis, and is also subject to our discretion.
Do I cook my own food?
Each resident is responsible for cooking and obtaining their own food. The kitchens are fully equipped and contain three refrigerators. Those at the house will often carpool to the grocery store, though it is also directly on a bus line. For families who want to set up their loved ones with some money for food, a good alternative to cash is a Hannafords gift card. They can be purchased online.
